Intermediate Grasshopper Workshop

An intermediate Grasshopper full 3-day workshop introduces advanced parametric modeling using Grasshopper, a visual programming plugin for Rhino. Participants learn to create and manipulate geometry through algorithmic design, exploring data types, lists, data trees, and common components. Workshops often include hands-on exercises and projects to solidify understanding and practical application.

ABOUT

As part of the OA2017 an intermediate Grasshopper workshop was be held by architect and computational designerAndrea Graziano, Co-de-iT member & Co-founder.

“the Basis of the Universe Isn’t Matter or Energy … It’s Data”  – James Gleick – WIRED

The space in which we live can be monitored in many aspects and it appears as a flux, a gradient of data in continuous evolution and change. Our understanding of surrounding environment is improving every day due to our ability to scan and sample the environment around us at increasing resolution using better technologies and sensors. Hence the space is revealed as a ever changing data field and our cap-ability to act and design the space itself can be enhanced by the use of tools able to inform better the design processes with more accurate, specific and variable, in space and time, data streams ad patterns.

inFORMation is an intermediate Grasshopper workshop about data embodiment strategies and advanced mesh modeling techniques.

Grasshopper is actually a powerful information processor that provides the basis to develop possible strategies to inFORM digital matter morphologies by specific set of data conditions. The workshop focuses on integrating information processing into digital systems to enable the formation of structures, from the very simple up to more complex ones. The aim is to give an understanding of information and data articulation as a spatial and architectural operations.

We will explore the use of Grasshopper to define algorithmical procedures aimed to express highly complex structures informed by different conditions at different scales and levels of details. We will learn by play that information is matter substance.

AGENDA

ABOUT

As part of the Conference Going Digital a basic Grasshopper workshop was be held by architect and computational designer Andrea Graziano, Co-de-iT member & Co-founder.

The workshop will explore the use of Grasshopper, plug-in for Rhinoceros, to provide participants the fundamentals of parametric design to support their design explorations. Parametric Design with Grasshopper is a basic Grasshopper workshop that will focus on how its nature as an information processor and how it can be used in order to manipulate data and to inform geometry from the very simple up to more complex ones. The modeling of parametric surfaces and geometries (Nurbs or Mesh) requires an understanding and manipulation of information and data structures in order to define the entire design process from design to production. The aim is to give an understanding of information and data articulation as already a spatial and architectural operation. Participants will learn to define algorithmic procedures to develop parametric data structures to inform their own ‘data-driven’ geometries and how to prepare the models for 3D printing process.
